Sustainability is the ability to sustain and focus on meeting the needs of the present and at the same time not compromising the capacity of the future generations to fulfill their needs. It also refers to responsible consumption by making limited use of the resources available to us. Therefore, ‘Sustainable Systems’ basically refers to the implementation of the sustainable resources.
The United Nations has also set some definite goals in order to create a sustainable world which is inter connected in some way and are equally important.
Sustainability essentially refers to a cycle which we all are a part of. It is important to contribute to it in a way or so to keep it going and therefore, to reach the intent of maintaining sustainability.
The different countries in the world are classified on the basis of: Underdeveloped, Developing and developed. India comes under the ‘Less Developed’ countries. It is still in the process of developing but has a long way to go.
Sustainable development consists of certain goals that need to be met in order to meet the human development goals. These goals include: No poverty, No hunger, good health, sanitation, quality education, equality, peace and justice, climate action, economic growth and so on. All these goals are ultimately related to each other in one way or the other. They come together at the end to attain the same objective. A well developed country will have most of these goals fulfilled.
The use of renewable sources of energy is also an important factor to maintain sustainability. Renewable sources essentially refers to those energy sources which can be used over a long period of time without getting exhausted. For example: solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy and so on. Fossil Fuels such as coal, petroleum etc, can also be used abundantly since they are easily accessible.
The purpose of sustainability has also been conveyed in many ways with the use of art and other means. The main aim is to avoid the use of substances that might cause harm to the environment as a whole, for example, plastic. It is also to ensure that materials like plastic are disposed in a way that they can be recycled and reused for the benefit of the environment.
Thus, Sustainable Systems refer to the utilization of resources in such a way that they are also preserved for the future generations and are environment friendly at the same time.
