This lecture was all about refining the layers made by us and adding some elements which would make the box a better look. The layers were to be placed in the box in such a way that every layer stood out in its own way. And when all the layers were put together, the box would stand out in it’s own way.
The ways in which I put all the layers, represented the structure of the city. I also tried to arrange them accordingly so that each and every aspect was highlighted and depicted a particular characteristic of the city.
One of the unique features of my box was that every layer in the box was a continuous strip of detailing. This meant that every layer could be repetitive in the same line and still be the same pattern. The reason for this is that my city is called ‘The Unbounded City’, which means that there are no boundaries encircling the city or the end of the city is not seen by the visitor. Therefore it extends till a point one cannot imagine. And this is the reason for this pattern.
Another addition that I made to the back of the box was the carving of a gate. The reason why this was important was because the narrative reads that ‘ when a visitor enters the gates of this city, the first thing one notices is the skyscrapers which make this city.’ And therefore, the first and the last layer show the buildings comprising this city, making it the first thing people would notice.
