Typography can be derived from anything as long as it makes us feel the word and its meaning. This lecture was all about understanding the purpose and application of this concept.

We first heard five sound clips, either instrumental or actual songs. After this, we had to choose a colour for each of them, whichever suited them the most. The next part was to choose to apt typeface for each of these songs and then combining them with the colours.

These were the five representations made by me:

This helped us in understanding the context of the music and then replicating it in visual terms. What made this process interesting was the combination of colours and typefaces. It was necessary to choose the correct typeface which would be the best representation of the song, since each typeface had meaning and reason for its use.

We also discussed about how aspects such as emotions, culture of a place, music etc. can affect the typography used to depict a word. Therefore, I feel that various aspects should be taken into consideration which designing a typeface but at the same time, the most suitable one should be put to use. Therefore, this class also brought together the concept of typography as whole and its different uses.
