Primary research plays a vital role in understanding the problem in a better way. It is important to look into the different problems or the different situations that exist in our immediate localities and how different people react to it or deal with it.
The research created by me is based on the topic ‘Affordable & Clean Energy.’ This research represents the ‘Energy consumed by different household appliances how they affect the electricity bill’. Here, it becomes important to understand the different situations of the various households and then finding out the average use by all the houses.
A research conducted by me in my society ( around ten households), gave me the following results which I combined together in this presentation.
The first slide shows the appliances which are used on a day to day basis and the amount of energy required to run them. I started out by asking the most used appliances in one’s household and the duration for which they may be using it. The appliances that I included are the most commonly used ones. The next step was to pick the three of those appliances which consume the most energy. After this, I formed a table showing the energy consumed and accordingly, the percentage by which they would affect the electricity bill. And the final pie chart, shows the overview of the energy consumption and it’s effect on the our bills.
We also discussed about surveys in class.
Survey is the method of collection of information by sampling of individual units from a population.
Surveys could be done in the form of interviews, questionnaires, primary research, data collection and so. What becomes important here, is to frame the questions in such a way that first, it becomes easy for the person to understand the cause of the research and second, so that we are able to collect maximum information. It becomes necessary that we compare, understand and examine the questions and the related answers in order to arrive at a conclusion.
There are three types of areas that we need to keep in mind while forming the survey. A residential area included any kind of houses of areas where people stay. Commercial refers to offices and places where people work to earn money. And thirdly, Mix Use is the kind of area where people work as well as stay.
So the survey has to be according to these areas and the kind of people that might be a part of it. For gaining maximum information, it becomes vital to keep these points in mind to frame the questions accordingly.
