We started out by discussing the mind map B made by us which mainly consists of the categories which come under the specialization chosen by us. I chose my specialization as Fashion Communication and Styling and under that, the category chosen by me is Editorial Design.
It was necessary to understand that even though the category came under the wide specialization, it was still a very broad concept. Therefore, it was necessary to break it down to elements. These elements had to further be broken down into parts which constituted the element. As I chose Editorial Design, the elements constituting it could be layouts, content development, typography, illustrations and so on. The discussion helped me in picking the right element under this category and manipulating it in such a way that it’s function is retained.
We also discussed about how inquiry questions would help us in getting a deeper sense of the element and how it was important for the specialization chosen by us. Knowledge questions basically help in filling the knowledge gaps that a person might have regarding the specialization and its elements. Knowledge questions lead to inquiry questions. A brief discussion on different courses like Fashion, Product, Communication and so on, gave us a better insight into it.
Inquiry questions are supposed to be general open ended questions which help in providing a better perspective to an individual about the course. Perspectives such as origin, cultural, economic, technological etc can be considered here.
This session gave us a better understanding of our courses and helped us in developing our inquiry questions accordingly.
