The categories chosen by us under our choices of specialization had to be broken down into smaller elements and further into smaller parts. This would help us in analyzing the course in a deeper way and creating a connection between various parts of the course.
The category which I chose under Fashion Communication & Styling is Editorial Design. Editorial design mainly refers to the layout of a particular magazine taking into consideration different aspects like typography, illustrations, arrangement and so on. Editorial Design plays an important role in fashion as it forms the basis of communication and is a form of information for the reader.
Based on these apsects, this is the mind map made by me:
Further, this mind map had to be broken down into smaller elements. These elements themselves can be broad in nature and therefore should be categorized further. This would help us in narrowing down the elements into a part which is the smallest and cannot be broken any further.
The element which I chose under Editorial Design is Layouts. Layouts play the most important part in Editorial Design as they determine the placement of different elements in the magazine and also direct the flow of the magazine. But again, layouts are broad in nature and have to be further categorized. A mind map of the same, helped me in understanding it in a deeper way.
This mind map helped me in choosing on aspect under layouts and using it to make five iterations of the same. The idea is basically exploring different ways in which it can be put to use and developed further.
