Amelie is a French movie about a girl whose childhood was suppressed because her father’s mistaken concern about her heart defect. Because of this, Amelie barely gets to interact with the outside world. She later finds a treasure which belongs to the former occupant of the house she is living in and decides to return it to him. After seeing his reaction on receiving it, she finds a new perspective of dedicating her life to the people around her. After helping out a lot of people, she realizes that she is disregarding her own life. So later she tries to get hold on her life and capture the love she has always dreamed of.
In the movie, it is seen that Amelie is very lonely. She makes use of her imagination to make imaginative friends. She does not talk a lot to people but when she finds happiness, she starts to open up. After being able to do a good deed, she feels a sense of contentment. She also keeps collecting stones to keep a part of her childhood alive.
The movie has a very specific setting and timeline. It is set in France and therefore it shows a lot of elements to give a french vibe. In that way it also tries to maintain the authenticity. It is set in the olden times and to show that effect, a yellow tint can be seen which enhances the look.
All these elements give shape to the movie and create a better understanding of the movie as a whole. A discussion in class about it, gave us a better insight of it.
