Sustainable Systems: Week 4

Affordable and Clean Energy refers to the use of clean energy sources like solar, wind and thermal energy instead of making use of non renewable energy sources. . Clean energy is produced by means that don’t pollute the atmosphere. It is vital to make use of clean sources since those are the types of energy that can be produced again and again without increasing the pressure on earth.

The use of affordable and clean sources of energy is the seventh goal of the sustainable development goals developed by the United Nations.

The poster created by me for the same included a light bulb with a separation between the use of fossil fuel, which is, coal and renewable sources of energy.

The first part focuses on coal out of all other fossil fuels because coal is supposed to be the most harmful source of energy. It releases the highest amount of carbon dioxide into the environment when burnt. And it is because of reasons like these, that we should change to renewable sources of energy and use them in abundance. Natural gas, being a fossil fuel, still produces half as much carbon dioxide as coal and therefore, acts as a good substitute.

This poster hence, shows the transition between the two.

This assignment helped us in understanding the benefits of using clean sources and how the harmful ones can affect the environment. The feedback for the same also gave us an insight of how we could connect these to our own immediate environments and get to know more about it in detail. Research is one of the best ways to get more information.
