Integrative Studio Sem 2: Week 14

10th April, 2020: Akash Das

After sketching out the layouts, I started to digitize them. I followed a step by step process in creating the proper layouts. This helped me in getting a better understanding of the placement of different aspects of the layouts and combining it together.

First, I created a basic structure of the layouts by laying out composition with placeholder images and text which helped me in getting the arrangement right. I also tried to include a different colour contrast for my magazine by using subtle yet attractive shades, not only for the background but also for the images. This led into the creation of a vintage theme overall for the magazine.

This was the basic layout for my magazine:

The theme also helped me getting the illustrations to the forefront and making them as engaging as possible.

As the content of the magazine, I chose four fashion styles which also went well with the theme and illustrations. These styles were namely: Minimalistic Fashion, Modern Fashion, Classy/ Sophicticated Fashion and Urban Fashion. I also made sure that the content matched the illustrations and helped to create a better understanding for the reader. For this I made use of Illustrator.

This was the final inner layout of my magazine:

Since my magazine was inspired by Vogue, I also tried to design a cover inspired by it. I tried to make this cover using illustrator and photoshop and Indesign for text. I also tried to replicate the typography used by Vogue and a vintage effect that helped me to correlate it to the rest of the magazine.

Following a similar process, I worked on my second magazine layout which is based on Visionaire. Here I tried to keep it identical to the theme of the magazine itself by including styles such as Gothic, Avant Garde and so on. I tried to tweak the existing layout a little bit by making additions on two spreads. This helped me in creating variations.

These were the inner layouts created by me:

In relation to the rest of the magazine, I designed the cover as well focusing on the important elements and colour scheme. I also included the logo in the magazine and set a colour in accordance to the rest of the theme.

The process of making the magazine helped me in creating a deeper understanding of the process and collating different data into one publication. I also tried to create a different version of the magazine through this process by including my own style of illustrations.
