The sketches based on the book, ‘Invisible Cities’ helped us in understanding the main elements of that particular city and then combining them all together to create one single identity. Abstraction of these sketches involved the perception of different visuals present in the cities and the ways in which they could be arranged together.

The next part was to come up with three sketches for the imaginary cities that we had decided to work on. These three sketches were based on just one city and therefore had to depict it. The process involved choosing of the cities and qualities that they would have. And this could either be based on one city or could be imaginative as well.
I started off by choosing certain words that would describe the city well. Words such as, “unbounded”, “Fantasy” and “hope”. The depiction of these cities could be related to them directly or could also be a complete abstract version of the same.
The first word that chosen by me was: Unbounded.
The sketch made by me depicted buildings in the form of lines and lines following them to the sky to show that ‘there’s no limit’. This was one of the concepts that described the city well and also provided a good aesthetic to it.

I also tried working on the word ‘Hope’ by showing a virtual ladder like sequence coming out of the water, in a very abstract way. These sketches helped us in understanding and developing the cities in a much better way. Also, by making these sketches, we could describe the cities easily.
