The placement of letters plays an important role in for a typeface to look perfect. Factors such as the height of the letter and the thickness of it, is the first thing we notice when it comes to reading the fonts.

Spacing between the letters makes the typeface either look proper or very narrow or extended. It is necessary that the spacing of the letters is constant. Tracking refers to overall character spacing. Kerning on the other hand refers to the optical character spacing. Both of them are used to create an effect on the typeface. Therefore, spacing plays an important role.

The baseline refers to the invisible line where the characters sit. It is one of the most important factors to align the characters. Meanline is the upper line where the characters touch. Both of them, decide the height of the characters whether in upper case or lower case.

Looking at a poster with different typefaces gave us a better idea of this concept. A typeface could represent shapes or feelings, they could highlight an aspect, they could be represented in a way that it felt like they were spoken, or they could simply be a very formal text. The right combination of all of these would develop a perfect poster.

We had to come up with a poster which made use of these typefaces in a way that they conveyed the message or intent of the poster. This helped us in understanding the concept in a better way and find different ways in which typefaces could be used.
