Integrative Seminar Sem 2: Week 5

6th Feb, 2020: Meenal Sutaria

The six cities created by me were based on six different imaginative concepts. Each city has a special characteristic that makes it unique and distinctive. The process that I followed for developing these cities revolves around the main word which defines the city most appropriately. All the cities have aspects that not only affect the people living there but also the city itself.

These are the six cities which I came up with

Different words can be interpreted in different manners. This is because every word has a particular interpretation or a sense of perception attached to it which makes the person associate to it in such a way. For example, a LIGHT BULB may represent ideas, light, eureka, moment, energy, thought and so on. On the other hand, a LIGHTNING STRIKE can also be interpreted as something very instantaneous, effective, fearful, speed, shock and many more.

The only thing that can change the understanding of the word is how it is visualized or put to use in a particular situation. In this case, a light bulb and a lightning strike both can represent ‘Thoughts’. Therefore it depends on the situation and use.

For something to have an impact on the person’s mind, it has to be exaggerated. Exaggeration basically refers to lay emphasis on something to make it more noticeable and this in turn makes the word stand out. It creates an intense effect and is always a better option to use. On the other hand, this technique can be used to create both negative and positive effects. In such cases, it depends on the situation and interpretation of the word.

This is a word sketch made by me based on my city:

The city chosen by me is called Apolicia: The Unbounded City. All the keywords represent the basic structure and perception of the city.

This gave us a better idea of the main elements of the city and how the city could be defined by using these elements. Every word associates with the other, giving the city a clear shape.
