Mind maps helps us in categorizing aspects depending on the commonalities between them. It also helps us in breaking down a particular element and finding out the different aspects that come under it.

By making mind maps based on different ancient objects, helped me in understanding the division of a particular object into aspects such as design, materials used, parts of it, types and so on. Creating these mind maps also helped me in analyzing the two objects which I was most interested in and how I could work on them with a design perspective.

These were the six mind maps:

On the basis of my specialization, I decided to work on ‘Clothing’ and ‘Jewellery’ as they lie under the category of Fashion Communication and Styling.

Clothing from the ancient times was very different in terms of design and functionality. It was designed in a way that it signified certain aspects such as the royals wore different attires as compared to the warriors or the inferior classes. The clothing not only depicted their statuses but also provided some sort of utility when it came to the style of clothing. And to complement this, Jewellery was worn along with it. Jewellery held a special place in any culture and was worn to depict certain attributes of that culture. Many stones were used to make these ornaments and were again worn by the people on the basis of their status and many such factors.

Therefore, by considering these important elements and their purposes, I decided to work on them further.
