Having finalized the two mind maps which I wanted to work on, I chose two objects under those categories. The first category being ‘Clothing’, I chose the Peshwaz ( Mughal Clothing) as my object and the under the second category of ‘Jewellery’, I chose Bajuband ( Mughal Armlet).
Bringing about a design intervention in objects can include the usage of an alternative material or system which would improve the working of the object or the introduction of a new aspect which can enhance the working of the existing object. Both work towards the benefit of it.
My first object is the Peshwaz, which was the clothing of the Mughal Women. It was made out of layers of muslin and consisted of intricate designs. It used be open in the front and only tied at the waist. As my design intervention for this, I included a heavily embellished belt which could also have a buckle system. This would secure the dress at the waist and enhance it’s overall appearance as well. Apart form that, if the belt is given some elasticity, then it would also allow some movement and would be comfortable as well. The reason for the embellishment is that it would blend with the rest of the dress and still provide the functionality.
My second object is the Bajuband which is the Mughal armlet. Armlets were considered to be an important part of jewellery back in the Mughal era. It used to be worn by all Mughal women. Jewellery itself was considered to have a symbolic meaning to it which was related to power and wealth. As this was a part of jewellery worn by women, I tried to increase its utility. Therefore, as my design intervention, I included a small dagger holder for the armlet which would be a part of the design. I chose this intervention because the armlet would be worn by the women all the time and the dagger will therefore act as a protection for them. They could use it for self defense purpose in case of an attack. The main purpose of the intervention was to provide a functionality to the jewellery instead of just acting as a piece of adornement.
A PDF is one of the best ways in which we can digitally understand the appearance of the book. One can go through it and get a better perspective of the same. This is a good way to look at the book not only for the creator but also for the viewer.

The process of making this book gave me a good idea of the ways in which I could bring about little changes in the existing objects which would prove to advantageous. It also helped me in understanding the purpose of various objects in history and how they were utilized in that particular age.
